Brainspotting Therapy in Houston & Across Texas
Getting out of your nervous system’s way so you can find relief
What if something as simple as your gaze could help you heal from trauma and anxiety?
This is the foundation of Brainspotting, where we leverage your gaze to help you process stuck sensations, emotions, and memories.
What is Brainspotting?
In Brainspotting, you and your therapist work together to find eye positions that give you access to faster, deeper processing than you can achieve from talking alone.
How did brainspotting develop?
Dr. David Grand discovered Brainspotting in 2003 while using a modified approach to EMDR. He noticed his client’s eye had a strong reaction when looking at a particular spot. Brainspotting has continued to grow from there.
What happens in a brainspotting session?
First you decide what you’d like to work on. You briefly discuss what’s distressing about the situation, memory, event, or feeling.
Notice how it feels to discuss or think about the situation. Become aware of the sensations in your body and how intense they are.
Work with your therapist to find the best eye position for processing (there are several ways to do this).
Once you find the spot, you engage in focused, mindful processing. You can share as much or little as you want out loud, and keep the rest in your head.
Take time at the end to digest, discuss, and ground before returning to daily life.
What does Brainspotting help with?
-
For those who’ve battled anxiety for a long time, Brainspotting offers a new approach that actually keeps you from overthinking.
I find many of my clients living with anxiety are thoughtful, insightful, and really good at staying in their thoughts without getting at the feelings underneath.
Brainspotting helps bypass the part of your brain that does all of the ruminating so you can actually address the roots of your anxiety.
-
Many clients avoid therapy because they really don’t want to have to talk about their trauma. That’s so understandable!
One thing I love about Brainspotting is that once the processing gets started, it’s really up to you how much you share out loud.
It’s not about reliving graphic details. It’s about getting unstuck from the constant cycle of flight/flight/freeze so you can start to breathe easy and trust your body again.

While people-pleasing often comes from a good-hearted place, over time the balance of relationships is thrown off leading to resentment.
If you’re ready to move beyond people-pleasing (but every time you try to act on your own behalf, you feel guilty) Brainspotting can help you untangle that guilt.
Through Brainspotting, your thinking mind takes a break so you can actually process what’s keeping you stuck and move toward lasting change.
